Hi,
We at E-dutainment Unlimited and our sister concern, Redstreet productions have been thinking of using blender as our primary 3d software. But we have our apprehensions regarding the shift.
firstly, we don't have enough material to train ourselves, as well as train our artists. Can that be arranged by some organisation ?
How much support can we expect from the community and in what fields ?
what about promotions ?
Our concern is : is there an organisation to support us ? or is there a group or an individual who can help us out ? we have a lot more to ask and discuss, but i think, having a personal discussion would be helpful. so if someone thinks likewise, he or she can call us at the below mentioned phone numbers and we can take it further.

Thanking everyone for their help.

There is *lot* of training stuff avaibale on official blender website in form of tutorials and samples. I doubt you will find any organization which can provide you blender training out of the box. Also, blender.org has e-shop with some essential books on blender.

Well community will support you in terms of suggestions/solutions to the problems you are facing. Do not expect the community to spoon feed you but if you are stuck somewhere, community will go to any extend to help you out. Major source of help for blender are blender mailing lists and #blender channel @ freenode

Yep, you can find individuals at blender mailing list and #blender channel @ freenode. Also, some blender supporters are available over skype for help and support. More here http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=108207

AFAIK there is no organization offering professional support for Blender. However Blender's website http://www.blender.org/education-help/video-tutorials/ has some great in-depth video tutorials. Play these tutorials on a projector and loudspeakers in a group and after every tip or topic discussed, pause the video and try out the same on your pcs installed with Blender. Those already trained in 3D animation will not find it very difficult. I have watched some of the beginner videos and they are quite nice.
The road block IMHO will not be the software or technology, but the employees who don't really care to learn a new software unless the management or boss steers them towards it. Group video training sessions with samosas, kachoris and cold drinks should help.

why not do one at HBCSE and invite all interested. How much time would it take one day or two days. Group learning with the above mentioned munchware would be fun.
We could schedule it for saturday / sunday.
yeah sounds like a nice idea. i would discuss it with the respective people and get back to you.

I'm game. I have the CD with all the videos (500 MB). One day should be enough. Sunday would be better as it is not a working day. Nothing like a GLUG get together to watch them. We will need machines loaded with Blender to actually try out the tips and tricks. We can bring laptops too. Everyone needs to come preloaded with blender. A 3D animation guy among the members would be a great asset in explaining things that go bouncer.

Sounds good. This can be yet another series of workshops like the openstreetmap.
Why not announce the meet on the wiki, if HBCSE is available on Sunday. Please check with Alpesh.
JTD, Rony,
regarding the meetings. i would recommend, you guys contact Mr. Anurag Kanti our managing director for this matter. he is the one who takes the decisions and is keen on implementing Blender. his contact no. is 9820252205

gps device used for mapping the area around HBCSE during the openstreetmap workshop, several of which were held in the country by the FSF and friends with Schyuler Erle and Mikel Maron last month.
The map data donated by AND corp for mumbai is randomly inaccurate, thus requiring people to go into the streets with a gps logger (fat plug - one such i happen to make and sell), collecting coordinates and using a combo of your collected data, yahoo imagery and maybe AND data to generate accurate stuff.
BTW the personal navigation devices (with data) being sold here claim 70% accuracy. God help you with that.
For the record even google maps data is wrong in most places, with gps data, street maps and satellite imagery producing three different results.

check out http://maps.google.com, http://maps.yahoo.com andhttp:// openstreetmap.org for Chromepet near Chennai. Look at MIT and you will see the power of OSM. OSM is the geographical equivalent of wikipedia. If you have a GPS logger, you can make traces and upload them. Even without a logger you can help complete OSM for your area using the Yahoo! satellite imagery as a base.
