Thanks all,
The suggestion to use swish led me to swish-e. This is indeed an amazing piece of art..:D.
Indeved 2GB in less than an hour. Including all prop file formats using external plugins.

Kbnow tured out to be a great too though. We need to have a GPL'ed version of the same done though.
Should we start a project for the same.

What is KBNOW? A google search showed it up as a Workflow Mgmt system. So not really sure. If it really is a WMS, then there is a Zope based tool called Openflow. Also, people have used the ACS/OpenACS framework to create stuff.

Aha. I'd stick to a wiki based system for KM. Sharable, easily updated. Easy to setup and admin. And there are already so many flavours - kwiki, twiki, wikiwikiweb. Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Pageis prolly the best community encyclopedia out there.

What can I do to help? What kind of funds would be needed to develop something like this? On the other hand, I've always been wondering if I should start writing code. I've never done this before and I guess now's a good time to start. ;-)
I failed in trying to get the author of this software to release it under the GPL.
What I loved about KBnow is that it's simple, extreemly easy to get installed, and does the job of searching data extreemly fast (like google)

Funds.....not really a pre-requsite. What i would suggest is that we come up with a list of pojects that some of us could start hnd holding students on.
A knowledge management tool like this one is a real breeze and i would surely like to pitch in towards the development of the same. We can base the same on python/zope and build a scalable application to do the same job the non-gpl version does.

Coding isn't the only job an idea like this needs. It needs documentation gurus, testing gurus, project/website co-ordination gurus, UI specialists and a lot more.
I failed in trying to get the author of this

Lets write our own..:D. We can rope in some of the fundu programmers around. To give it a start is more imp.
Lets get in touch and take this ahead.
PN: Its not aiming to be a google. All that it is ...is a simple KM tool.

But does zope and python get installed on most base GNU/Linux distro's? The other beauty of this program is that it did not require apache, perl/php, mysql or fetchmail... It just worked as a binary.... and that's really cool...
For those that are insterested please check out the software on the following website.

What are the features you are lookig for in the search. GNOWSYS is a knowledge management application, that has inbuilt catalogue and presently uses the search features of zope. Recently some new indexing features are added, and we plan to upgrade. If you give me the features that you need, then I will integrate them in GNOWSYS.

Hi Nagarjuna,
Can you give me URL where I can download the software (tar file)?
I'll read the readme and see how to get it installed.
The feature needed.....
1. It should easy to install and configure... It took me under 5 minutes to install and configure on any Linux Disto...
2. Populating data into this DB is as simple as sending (forwarding) an e-mail
3. Searching should be fast.
For the time being, I've setup a DEMO on my server for us to evaluate what I'm saying...
http://www.theargoncompany.com:4584
To populate data send e-mail to ilug@theargoncompany.com
Let me know what you guys think..

I believe that the capability to search indexed matter from online forums/chat bots is already there in GNOWSYS.
A simple addition could be in terms of being able to pick up email messages via pop from an email server and start indexing the same based on the threads generated.
Nag, its indeed a very simple feature but at out group in tcs we are finding this very effective in having KM implemented without pushing for change management.
Lemme know if there is a way i can help out with this module in GNOWSYS.

We have already implemented this feature. Now GNOWSYS can recieve email as well as send email. It can archive e.g., all the emails sent to a list such as ours, and provide searh interphase as well as bb features. One most useful feature of this is that after the objects are installed you can organize them and network them, by just changing the metadata. This project is competed very recently, and has not been put in the release version of GNOWSYS. I will make a tar ball and send this to both of you on tuesday. (rishi, the website is gnowledge.org, but the version that is available there for download is outdated, and doesnt have email support.)
Lemme know if there is a way i can help out with this module in GNOWSYS.
If you or your team are interested I can demo these features and if you like you can join in. We will find out what we can do.

Can we have a demo of the same at a Cafe-Coffee day meet???. Lets plan up and meet. We can figure out some interesting things to discuss.
Besides whereever our little knowledge can help....i shall be interested to take things up on those lines.

Rishi....wouldn't it be better for pple to download a complete tarball that is shrink wrapped around zope. Python is the default on various distros worth their salt.
From the little i have used of Zope....it may not scale in terms of Enterprise Features aka 9iAS/WebLogic/BEA but is a great App Webserver for meduim size to large organisations usage.
