Hello Friends on this Group
Hi I am new to this Forum and also to this Operating System[Linux]
I have Downloaded the SUSE Linux 10.0 from the Suse Official Site [www.opensuse.org]
The Download has completed properly
All the 5 Cd's ISO format are in proper Condition[Without Damage]
Now when I Insert the 1st CD it initially shows the SUSE Welcome Screen wit the Installation option
When I provide the 1st CD link
It says
CheckSum Error "CD BROKEN"
Can anybody help me out in this

Hello girish Welcome to the group and the world of open source. Now, about your problem, it seems that your cd hsn't been burned properly or it might have got scratched so its checksums do not match. You will need to burn the cd again that's the best and easiest way out I can think of.

Open source != free software, welcome to both the worlds.

The checksum on the ISOs may not match that of the CD, yet the CDs may be ok. Thats because of the large amount of CRC data that is stored per sector on a CD...

Did you check if the md5sum for each CD image match with that published on the above site (see for a file called MD5SUMS in the directory containing the ISO files)?
If not, then your download got corrupted. If md5sum is OK then perhaps the CD-R media is flaky. Either way your CD image is corrupt.

This might be OT but doesn't downloading entire ISOs take a lot of time & burn a hole in your pocket ? I burn up the 400Meg limit in TriBand quite quickly. Is the NU plan a good alternative ? The reviews of this group on NU seem to be really gloomy. Regards, Mohan S N
