Please check the user and passwd entries in /etc/ppp/chap-secrets & pap-secrets .Entries in both should be same. hope it will solve the problem.

Has it been tested with a Pacenet connection? If it has been successful tested with a Pacenet connection, I'd be interested in getting the client too.
You know if it is successful with a Pacenet connection it could be distributed to the many Pacenet subscribers that need it via download from a (free?) web page. There are many Pacenet subscribers facing the same problem as can be seen via the archived ILUG-BOM posts.
Hi , yes its been tested succesfully,i am using it from past 1 year. You can distrubute it to anybody but dont give it to pacenet people.I am sending a copy to you offline. (other details to use the software:You must know access concentrator, service name, your username should be username@linuxuser)

you can also try rp-pppoe-gui .It is tk base interface to configure pppoe. get it from here http://www.roaringpenguin.com/products/rp-pppoe/#download and after installation, run "tkpppoe" from command line.It will start the configuration interface. hope It will solve your all problems.
