How large are your documents ?
We also work on some large documents. However, (at least in windows), we have not faced problems. We have faced some difficulties on spreadsheets, but under special conditions. If you have a set of complex, inter-connected spreadsheets which have figures linked from each other, opening the last spreadsheet makes the software open each one in the background, process them and update the links. This takes too much time. (But this is in case of very large spreadsheets -- we worked with a set of 8 spreasheets totallying 21mb in size).
