Has anyone ever done a comparison exercise for printer running costs?
Some time back I had googled, Dot Matrix Printer: 10 paise per page Laserjet: Rs. 0.5/page Inkjet Printers: Rs. 2/page
The cost of the Dot Matrix printing is further reduced because of the low tech and highly reliable reinking costs.
Till date i have never been successful in getting a inkjet cartridge re-inked (though only tried the hp deskjet 670C).
Does anyone have more reliable estimates on the cost comparisons?
Have you been successfully and consistently reinked an inkjet cartridge thus reducing the cost per page? if yes, then which brand/model is the most "re=ink" friendly.
HP deskjets IMO are just ink delivery devices.

Hi,
I don't know why you've faced problems reinking ink jet cartridges. I've done it for the last 10 yrs. They cost about 100Rs a pop. A original cartridge will last about 3/4 reinkings or refillings.
You could consider epson printers. Their cartridges do not have the printer head built into them. The head is built into the printer itself. Hence their replacement cartridges are a lot cheaper. They cost about Rs 450 against Rs 1200 for HP. The disadvantage is that eventually the printer head will wear out in the epson printers. Then it will cost a bomb. On the HP printers it gets replaced with every new cartridge. But then the cost of new printers is peanuts.
You could also consider replacement cartridges for inkjets hich are substantially cheaper than original ones. They offer comparable performance too. I am using one right now which cost about Rs 800.

They also spoil your printer. Today, a laser printer is cheap enough to be usable, and far more economical for the quality.
The whole business model of injkets is built around selling printer ink, the device itself is a loss leader.

Actually, it depends on the printer make. Epsons for example have a fixed head and use piezo-electric technology for spraying ink. OTH HPs have the printhead in the cartridge itself. They use heating to spray ink. Refilling such an HP cartridge would do no harm.
You can always buy a new cartridge... voila, the printer head gets changed. EPSON refills can expose you to risks.
