Ffmpeg would work. It works best from command line, but various gui tools also there. Arista transcoder came with lucid works ok, meant for portablea alone. Various gui frontend there for ffmpeg, try winff, was buggy when I used it a few years back, nothing works like the comand line though...

I am searching for an enocoder/decoder that can convert .mkv to .mp4 or any other format that I can play in my DVD player without loss of quality.
I have tried using Mplayer's *mencoder* to convert to mpg or avi but it resulted in pathetic quality.
Any other ideas ? Please suggest ......
