Hi,
We have SAN here, with a Compaq TL890 tape library, an HSG80 storage array, one GS160 configured as two hosts and a normal ML350 ... all connected to a SAN switch through Emulex fiber channel adapters.
For testing, we connected the tape library (TL890 directly to the ML350). It has 10 tape slots and two drives with a robotic arm ... the ML350 has an Emulex fiber channel adapter, that is supposed to show all SAN boxes as SCSI devices.
But problem is, /proc/scsi/scsi shows only the robotic arm, and not the tape drives ... we tried compiling all the scsi modules into the kernel, but still no effect. Earlier, when the server was on the SAN, it could not see the storage array or other hosts either. It only shows the first LUN it founds. So we tried tweaking MAX_LUNS, but that doesn't help either!
Has anybody tried doing something like this before? Please help!
Sameer.

I'll check that out ... but fact is, we are trying the adapter off the switch ... there's a direct fiber connection between the server and the tape library. We did that exactly for the same reason - just to isolate the problem as much as possible.

Well ... its supposed to be both, but currently neither! :-)

rite. It's better to put the library on the switch and check where the problem is.Since you have eliminated the switch as the problem now, you could connect it now.... There could be a whole lot of things going wrong..If u put the host and library on the SAN, you can chk from the switch if: 1) the host adapter is registering properly 2) the tape library is registering its drives properly. Then you'll know which is the problem maker. since i'm unaware about the TL890, i can only offer help *from* the switch ;-)
