have you been rootkitted?
I don't think so.I have downloaded only music and the flash-plugin for FF rpm.
BTW,Right now,it doesn't matter, since my home was on cd,i deleted my mandriva partitions and remade them and reinstalled.
Lucky you, looks like it's my copy of the DVD that has a problem.BTW,I have never had a completely unhindered install.Always the Mandriva theme is not properly installed.Could that be a part of the reason?

An empty directory with a lost+found is generally seen for an empty
partition.. perhaps the /home that you see from mandriva and the one you see from knoppix are different..
When I see from mandriva,i click on the home icon on my desktop and when I
see from knoppix,i click on the home partition (hda6),I don't think that's abnormal. ;)
Easwar, see my reply to your earlier mail. Data doesn't get
lost/overwritten randomly.. it is mostly pebkac.
What's pebkac? It was not lost/overwritten,it was not visible within Mandriva ie it had a physical existence but was not visible within Mandriva but visible from Konsole of Knoppix live cd.

what is an luser account and how different is it from user?
The luser account is the same as the user account.
Again, corrupted files?
Please see the next sentence or para.I chowned my way there. It was inaccessible because i was not the owner.(I was Knoppix root,NOT Mandriva root)

pebkac: "Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair", this IMO is the reason for most lost/overwritten data..
Read my previous mail again..

Compare the output of the "mount" and "df -h" command.. in both cases.

/home folder does not need special root privileges to read. Why did you not see the /home files as Mandriva's root? Knoppix root can read files of normally working distros. If you had a bad installation there is a good possibility that your file system is corrupted. If you are using a separate home partition, is it exclusively used for Mandriva or did you use it for another distro too? Try doing a clean install by formating all your partitions needed for Mandriva. As far as installation is concerned Mandriva installs flawlessly. If your copy of media is bad, get another one. If you can't get another one, let me know.
