Tally has over 100 programmers working in the team. It has the
fullmoney and support of >>Reliance, who bought the company 5 years ago.
Try using "accounting package on linux" on google it throws up a bunch of stuff u could user to get the same job done
When I asked you to do that on google I expected that you would not restrict yourself to just one mentioned software, on a personal note I am not a accountant but I have showed a couple of accountants Nola and some bunch of other stuff some time back, they did seem preety impressed with it then. Not followed up after that. As far as tally goes the data can be exported for back up as it is a property database I dont know if 5.4 allows you to export it to oter databses I asked a friend of mine and he says that tally 6 can do that not quiet sure of 5.4.

I saw NOLA when I was evaluating accounting softwares 1 year back. I felt NOLA was just not making sense. The UI (webbased) was not adequate for commercial working.

Exporting for backup means that it can only be restored within tally. In spite of what anyone may say, I am yet to see the ability to export data from tally to any database. There is ODBC support in tally (claimed), but tally is not giving the strucutre of the database. So what are you going to do with odbc ? They are only saying odbc support to impress people. It is not a usable feature.
The export facility in tally 6 is only for export of reports to softcopy (excle, textfiles).
