On Ubuntu 10.10, Reliance Netconnect, Broadband+ works out of box, with following one issue:
It takes long time (2 to 4 minutes), to appear in Network Manager.
What could be the issue, and can we do something (to issue some command, run script, or setting) to make it appear in less time (say 10 seconds).

I'm becoming the agony uncle for usb_modeswitch.

These devices get detected as usb memories / pen drives. Unmount the volume and then it is ready.

No. On my system (Ubuntu 10.10), it does not mount as storage device. So, as such neither I can mount it, nor unmount it.
Any other reason / possibility?

In my experience, it usually takes a minute, at the most two. In the mean time, I amuse myself by right-clicking the NetworkManager icon and going to settings > mobile broadband, with the irrational hope that doing so will activate the modem. It is like a religious experience.
If the thread I had posted earlier does not help, you could try asking Josua Dietze of usb_modeswitch for help.

In your terminal run 'sudo tail -f /var/log/messages' and then plug in your modem. Observe the messages till they stop and then see if your modem is ready by then.
How are you configuring it? I tried wvdial to configure it the first time and now it detects perfectly with the default configuration. This is in Ubuntu 11.04. It did take a lot of time initially but now it detects in seconds. Which device do you have? I recently got a Huawei EC150 whose drivers cd came with software for Linux as well. I couldn't install it as this was for x86 architecture and mine is amd64. So i suggest you google about wvdial, use it to configure it first, then add it in your default network manager under mobile broadband tab.
