Dear friends
Can any one help me out in printing with HP3420 deskjet printers with USB interface. I have linux 7.2 installed. My PC is not initializing the printer. I have specified the device /dev/usb/lp0 .
Can anyone guide me printing with USB interface. How to configure.
Thanks
regards
Joseph.

Are you using LPRng or CUPS or something else? Check
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-DeskJet_3420
for information on which driver to use.
Also, you don't have linux 7.2. No one has linux 7.2 as linux 7.2 hasn't been built yet. You probably have RedHat 7.2. I think LPRng was the default on RH7.2, while cups is the default on RH8.0. If it's SuSe or Mandrake or Slackware, then I wouldn't know, but LPRng is a good bet.

I have the same printer working with RH 7.3.
I had to download and build the latest ghostscript and hpijs. All the instructions are on linuxprinting.org.
