windows says it has 256mb ram.so i installed it using tui and after that i did startx,but still the same problem gui doesnt come,after that i switched to runlevel 3 to configure monitor to change the resolution but still suse 9 doesnt gives me gui.

try a boot time option of vga=788 (redhat ) or vga=0x314 (suse) another thing check your bios for video memory (min it should be 8Mb)
