i have a CD R/W connected as secondary master and a CD ROM as secondary slave.
i'm not abel to play vcd with the writer but it works well with cdrom.
whats the problem
and how do i play .dat files on linux.

1. Make sure the CD-ROM drive is not mounted... we don't want to browse the filesystem. # umount /mnt/cdrom
2. Start xine and use the VCD mode directly... This makes xine read the disc as raw VCD.

I have a weird problem here. If I unmount a cdrom drive while running Gnome, Gnome feels the need to eject it as well. When I put the CD back in, it automounts.
Now, I do want the automount, but I don't want the autoeject on umount. What to do?
BTW, there are some audio CDs with data on them as well (some music videos in quicktime format), gnome mounts these automatically instead of playing the audio.

Which player do you se to play if you use mplayer then u can give this command 'mplayer -vcd 1 ' or whatever player u use just check its man page... that will help.
