Thankx in advance ^^^^^^ Linguists often debate on society's rights of inventing their own spellings... you can check the spelling you want below :).
For starters... try using man and info on the command prompt... try and read maerial on the Net. TDLP is a good starting point....
You can also read books... I'd say use Peter Norton or Sumitabha Das. They're gentle enough for the beginner.
THANX,
ah

Actually it was a bit of hackerdom. Replacing the 's' and rhyming morphemes in plurals with 'z' or 'x'.
Thanks becomes thanx and _not_ thankx...
But then that's the problems one faces with a male keyboard ;) The one I have simply revolts. While I ranted about the spelling of 'thanx' I made a mistake (read typo) myself later-on in the mail.
They certainly don't make keyboards like they used to before.

ah

Welcome to the group Gurdeep. You are right, the best way to learn is to read documentation for yourself and trying things out on your GNU/Linux box.
There are a lot of sources for good documentation on the internet as well as in your own system. Check out the following for example.
* The directory called /usr/share/doc ... this contains documenation for all the packages installad on your system. * If you are using RedHat, do make sure you have installed the guides available with the distribution, such as the RedHat Installation Guide, the RedHat System Administrators Guide and so on. * The Linux Documentation Project (TLDP), hosted at http://www.tldp.org/ is a wonderful source of information. The documentation is available in two important forms, besides others - guides (big books on specific topics), HOWTOs (smaller documents on very specific things you might want to do, and mini-HOWTOs (even smaller documents that are too small to be called a HOWTO. * Also check out the info pages and man pages on your system. If you are using either the KDE or GNOME desktops, their file managers provide a browseable interface to the docs on your machine.
Hope this provides sufficient pointers for you for further exploration!
Sameer. PS: Please configure your mail client to send only plaintext mail when writing to the list. This is just for convenience to all the list members that use many different mail clients with differing capabilities.

I forgot a very important one:
"Whereas books shelved beside this one will get your feet wet, this one lets you actually paddle for a bit, then thrusts your head underwater while feeding you oxygen."
BTW, there was an effort long ago for generating useful content on our site itself ... anyone interested in reviving that?

The only thing I think is wrong with the info on the site (I felt), was that there should be an index page providing headings and links to the data.
