hi, just installed FreeBSD 5.3 working fine. what i learned from the doc is that in order to make the sound card working you have to re-compile the kernel (or am i missing something?) but i have also tried the FreeSBIE 1.1 a live cd based on freebsd which automatically detects sound card, i am just trying to find which script in that cd does so. any ideas?

if your lucky you might need to simply add "load snd_pcm" to the start-up modules
(but please check exact syntax
this driver seems to work with most commonly available soundcards)

The command is kldload /boot/kernel/snd_pcm.ko depending on your soundcard you will need to load the proper .ko module.

hi,
u can add modules in Fbsd by kldload also in /boot/loader.conf file for boot time,If ur using 5.x Bsd u dont need to make sound devices its already there u need to load these 2 modules to make ur sound work
kldload snd_sound kldload snd_driver
u can check ur device status too by doing cat /dev/sndstat
