about my problem with the modem, I can connect with 2400 baud! Slow... It seems a protocol problem; any place where I can find more info?

What speed do you get with Minicom?
I managd 19200 once; 2400 only after that lucky time. But the modem at the server side seems okay as other people connect at 57K

is your modem OK does it regularly give u stable high speek connects.??

Smells like a line problem to me. Line noise, bad connections, terminal oxidation, etc. can all cause these problems. WHy don't you have a telephone wireman redo your connections and see if ut makes a difference?
My experience has been that while PPP connections are very sensitive to noise, etc., when Minicom starts running slow, it is generally time to check your telephone wiring.
