Try power rebooting your modem and restart your network.

Also, check to see if there are parallel lines to your phone line. Ideally the extensions and forking should be done AFTER the incoming line reaches the splitter.
MTNL DNSes would 203.94.227.70 and 203.94.243.70 You can try and put some other DNSes in there too. maybe it would work. Are you having another router between your dlink modem and your PC?

I just recollected one more point. In my modem settings I had come across a dhcp lease time setting and by default its 3600 seconds which means one hour. I had then added one more zero to make it 10 hours. Are you using dhcp and facing this problem after about an hour of use? Another inherent problem with mtnl's servers is that at midnight its net goes down at the crossing point. Whenever I update or add packages from the net, if its nearing midnight, then the download hangs. The modem is re-powered on after its past midnight. After that there is no break at all. This has nothing to do with the free NU plan as I don't use that plan.

Rony.
