I downloaded the mini-installation iso successfully from a Japanese server last night. Started the ftp install - it succeeded to the extent of downloading the base system onto ram disk. Then it choked at the point of package selection - the error message was "unable to read from media". Google search seems to suggest that this is due to extremely slow rsync from the overloaded ftp servers. Didn't make sense to me because it was the same Japanese server from which I had downloaded the iso relatively quickly. If anybody out there has been successful, I would like to hear from them. I am going to try again tonight and will keep the list posted.

Hopefully one of the magazines will have it as their "free DVD" for February. -=-=- ... Your manuscript is both good and original, but the part that is good is not original and the part that is original is not good. -- Samuel Johnson * TagZilla 0.057 * http://tagzilla.mozdev.org

I have embarked upon the incredibly foolhardy task of attempting an FTP install of Suse 9.2. Currently the progress bar shows "2 days remaining". Hopefully the picture will be less dismal tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the link. They don't have Suse 9.2, though. I managed to find a torrent for 9.2:
You can get each of the 5 cds separately, all of them together, the full DVD or a 32-bit version of the DVD.

Do not go for CDs of SuSE, prefer DVD's. SuSE DVD's have more packages than the 5 CDs. If you only have CDroms then there is no option other than SuSE CD's or an FTP install.

I am downloading the dvd iso to a spare partition and doing a hard disk install by mounting the iso as a loopback device.

Well I hope you are not doing it over dialup. Unusual as it may sound to most, I have seen people who use/update gentoo over dialup.
:) cheers Vinayak
