Hi list,
Are there any powersurfer (power sufferers :P ) customers here? Their andheri network has been down for the past 7 days i.e. from 31st May. The reason they are citing is that their switches got damaged in the rains. AFAIK this hasn't happened in the past. This down time is killing...
Any good alternative ISP in andheri area who you guys would suggest? I am willing to pay upto 600 bucks a month for a 64Kbps (8kBps) connection and 800 bucks for a 128Kbps (16kBps). All I want is a public IP (doesnt matter whether its static or dynamic), no port blocks, consistent uptimes, stable speeds and ofcourse should be compatible with Linux.
Airtel is available in our area but not in my particular building...
Help!

Try Iqara (www.iqara.net). I had them for about a year; w.r.t. downtime I did not experience such long outages. I discontinued their service because they did not deliver the promised speed (256Kbps).
MTNL TriBand is also an option if you already have a land line from them.

jtd, no need to laugh about it...i'm already sore at them :/

Iqara...haven't heard good things about them. I dont suffer from such long outages on powersurfer as well. This is an exceptional case I guess but it just doesnt seem right. How about exatt? I dont want to go in for MTNL because they dont have any flat rate plans. If there are any billing issues then I just cant take out time and get them fixed. Besides my MTNL landline is hardly functional!

If you want exatt in SeP area then their service is intermittent. One of my client's line is down since one week whereas another one in the same area has on and off service. TATA indicom too has service in that area and my client gets good speed on his 256 kbps line.
If you want a service just for bridging the gaps with no cable dependency, then have a look at Reliance's fwp schemes. Speed is good. Approx 125 kbps. Today I installed the usb cable on my client's RIL fwp. FWP net schemes are no longer attractive but RIL has one scheme for Rs. 400 where you get an smtp server and night usage after 10pm free. I hope its still available.
Regards,
Rony.
