is there any customer of pacenet from goregaon on this list there are heavy problems faced in this area from pacenet for the last 15 days & mr saiyad from pacenet says that 7 days have been credited to every user as compensation while TRAI regulations say that "Faults Pending for > 7 working days and < 15 working days: rebate equivalent to 15 days of minimum monthly charge or equivalent usage allowance" well the customers dont get perfect speeds the network is congested while DNS pings are normally above 130 ms on 64 bytes. I have a 72kbps line the speeds are mostly below 56.2 kbps on an average not more than 64 kbps

Why cant you shift to MTNL TriBand?? 590 NU is an excellent plan. BTW once you shift, you can "reason" with them more freely. They cant hold you at ransom ;)

true i would surely like to switch over to airtel or mtnl but airtel is not available in my area & mtnl is not having unlimited schemes so no switch available

We stay in a society with 24 flats (condos). About 8 years ago we had 13 households with a computer with them.
This ratio in my own opinion amongst middle class households then was high for any given society. I haven't been in bombay for the past three years but i reckon the number has gone way up. Interesting thing is you wouldn't find such a number anywhere else in India then.
That i think makes it a viable market for broadband alright!

Broadband in Mumbai (except triband) is distributed by cable operators. Hence whatever the cable operators provide, the user has to use, else go to Triband. Probably he means non-competitive in that sense.
But from MTNL's point of view it is competitive as the CTOs cannot stop anyone fr5om getting triband. It comes directly through the phone line.

Hmm.. VSNL (Tata indicom) has been providing DSL services (therefore through phone line) for a while now. Airtel started this (DSL) some time ago too and even in my office area they provide the service. As does MTNL. Reliance also provides broadband service but in some areas.
TATA/AIRTEL provide bundled services which includes land line and internet.
The only thing going for TATA and for AIRTEL is that they provide unlimited plans (however sucky). But MTNL rules.
The reason why mtnl those plans are in delhi and not in mumbai is because airtel has a good presence there. So it was competitive and nothing else. Now that airtel is in mumbai too and gaining ground, its a matter of time before mtnl will come up with unlimited plans.
in any case its only a couple of years before this whole metered download bull is done away with.

thats true there will days with 2 mb unlimited considered as broadband within a year or 2 but airtel is just starting there service in mumbai not fully established in mumbai what you said is true airtel has a good presence in delhi as considered in mumbai & trai has suggested everyone to switch over to dsl than cable internet

AHAAHAHHAHAHHAAHAHAHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHH!! hehehehe.... TATA hahahahahahahahaahhahahahahhaahHAHAHAHHA!!! Ahem...I'll control myself now =P
TATA b***** chors A** *****!! They are NO competition to MTNL.
Talking about Airtel. Well Airtel is SO slow in deploying it network that I dont think they'll be even penetrating 0.00000000001% of Mumbai in the next 100 years. The place where I live, Airtel has been "trying" to wire up for the past 2.5 years. Yes people 2.5 years of which last 2 years I've been waiting for them to wire up my building...
Dont even get me started about Reliance and them stringing their fibre on the street light poles.
Even if Ambani, Ratan Tata and Mittal come together and apply 100% of their resources in competing with MTNL I dont think they'll even get 100 new subscribers. Heh...
The only thing going for TATA and for AIRTEL is that they provide unlimited plans (however sucky). But MTNL rules.
Yup but their speed seriously suck. Not to mention the downtime. Pathetic after sales. Faulty billing. And the list goes on =P
Now that airtel is in mumbai too and gaining ground, its a matter of time before mtnl will come up with unlimited plans.
Read my first argument. Airtel stands no chance against these sarkari babus ;)

Dilip, MTNL 590NU is quite good. The uptime of MTNL is excellent. Not a single minute of downtime till date. Speeds are excellent. Service is quite good. Customer care is average. Till now no probs touch wood ( meri nazar na lag jaye! hehehe ).
And USP is outright 'compatibility' with any OS ;)

I wasnt talking to u. I was talking to vihan actually. Anyway, I too used to think like you once...let the unlimited plans roll in and then i'll make the switch. Well guess what? BSNL launched unlimited plans @ 949INR then MTNL Delhi launched unlimited plans @ 1399INR ( not including modem costs ) then MTNL Delhi reduced the cost to 900 bucks or something. All the while Mumbai users sat there watching in awe and frustration! :(

Yep! MTNL hai toh sahi hai bhai!! Aaj hi register karo aapka connection!! Call kijiye 1500 pe! Ab internet surf karna aur bhi aasan aur bhi sasta!! hehehe...
No dude. I dont advertise for any ISP. I generally have the habit to tear them apart =P Its just that I am pretty happy with the service I get from MTNL as opposed to what trash service I got from 7star, Reliance Powersurfer! :)
And the best part of MTNL is that they stick to standards. I had ZERO problems in getting my Linux installation working with it. As opposed to the pleading, threatening and pulling my hair out with 7star and Reliance Powersurfer though lesser with the latter :)

I had a good experience with MTNL. The guy who came to install it at my home in Mumbai knew about Linux. I talked to him over the phone (I work in Bangalore) about installing on Linux (Ubuntu), he understood what I was talking about and installed a n/w card (RTL8139-based) and my parents could use the net connections without any issues.
This was so easy and painless. I have heard the same review from other people in the locality. So I don't mind recommending MTNL. But YMMV
