I just got the MTNL Triband installed on my IBM X40 running RHEL 4WS and it was a snap! Once the hardware was plugged in, all I did was go to the terminal, do a "service network restart" and I was online! The MTNL guy who came to set up my connection had never worked on Linux and said that if he had to set this up on Windows XP he would have to do a whole bunch of configuration.
As that old ad goes, "You come a long way, baby!"

What brand/model is the ADSL modem/router? Which port did you plug in USB or ethernet Using the ethernet port is practically a no brainer. OTH, connecting thru the USB port is a different ball game.

The new connections of triband use the hweweui (whatever) modem if provided by mtnl, that has dhcp disabled so in any system you have to set the static ip and its related entries like gateway and dns.
Can you give some details of the modem you got and if you use static or dynamic address. If you did not have to do anything in linux, the same would be true for windows too.

Rony.

Glad that you are happy but AFAIK the same holds true for WinXP. Infact in XP you need not even issue a command to restart the network. You just plugin the LAN cable and you're online.
The problems people face on XP are because of two reasons: 1. They use the USB interface which I guess requires a driver to be installed. 2. They probably try to use XP's PPPoE dialer to login to MTNL.
All they actually need to do is power up the modem, connect the LAN cable, set your NIC to get IP throught DHCP. Thats it. Your username / password is already programmed into the ADSL modem.
