144kbps (or is it 170kbps)) is the total channel throughput. Shared by umpteen users. Result 4.5kbps actual throughput most of the time. Occassionally you may get a burst of speed when the channel is relatively less cluttered. Unless you are guaranteed in writing of a fixed continuos bandwidth, all the promises are rubbish. In fact a 9600bps gsm connection (not gprs) works far better than any of the shared schemes. Of course you are charged Rs.4 per minute.
