After running around looking for a lot of clients I am back to where I started: ymessenger provided by Yahoo! and gabber the great
The problem with the first is that it is available only in rpm format. I tried using alien to convert it into a deb, but the thing hangs when I try to run it. I am very afraid of using the --scripts option in alien right now and I think that is causing the problem. Can someone provide some pointers please?
Gabber is available as a tarball, but it refuses to compile on my machine. The configure script says that I need libgnome >= 0.10 or something, but I have a much higher version of it installed! The deb package has made it to sid, but I am on Woody(testing) right now
