It is giving me trouble with my onboard sound. I have a Via Chipset (8233A) MoBo with AC'97 onboard sound. Linux seems to have picked this up okay (8233_ac97) but there's no sound at all. A recent reinstall (for another purpose) found the system locking up on the KDE splash screen unless sound was disabled from the BIOS. The boot-up messages show it as detected and started okay.

However no lock up or any other problem. What module are u using for graphics.

Would there be a difference between 8233 and 8233A sound drivers? I have the RedHat drivers with my MoBo CD.

Dunno abt the drivers but some differences in the chips (muting). Alsa is supposed to work well once "unmute" util is run.
