just curious. how much those power book G4 cost? i checked apple India, there they say its around Rs.1 lakh and more. are these really all that costly? or there is something like lamington raod for mac where i can afford to buy one.

And yes, Macs cost a lot more than a cheap PC. But if you are looking at a branded higher end laptop, then the cost is equivalent.

Anything "Apple" is best bought in the US. AFAIK Apples have very less penetration in India just because they follow the same pricing structure world-wide without taking PPP into account.
The amounts one pays is thus huge. Add to that taxes as a percentage and the price becomes astronomical.
Unless of course, you want to make a style statement or are into using a particular suite of creative applications, you can do very well without a Apple.
Again, I doubt if you can procure Apples in a piecemeal fashion from a hardware market; because Apple's computer hardware platform is the "IP" of Apple, and they disuade third-party manufacturers from making mainstream components.
