Dr.Hatekar of the Economics Dept. of the Mumbai University is a social worker of rare dedication. He and a few others from the University Campus have, for the past couple of years, been running an unofficial school for children of the near by slums. The teach and guide the youngsters and if possible try to amit the smarter older ones to near by schools. All this requires considerable funds, which till now have mostly been donated by the residents of Campus. But to facilitate donation, Dr.Hatekar has registered an NGO called L.E.A.R.N. His efforts were recognised by the Times of India by publishing an article about him and his collegues on page 2 of their paper sometime last month.

They now have a little space in a Budha Vihara near the campus. I thought that it would be wonderful if we, linuxusers, could arriange for a few computers for these children and train them. I talked it over with Dr.Hatekar and he was more than happy and said that he could arriange space for up to 8 computers.

This is an appeal to all : If you have any old computer equipment (in working condition), preferably whole computers, which you want to donate, we are very interested. Contact me off list or call me if you want to help.
