For the past few days i've been observing that when firefox is running continuously for some time (sometimes for minutes, sometime for hours), X and firefox are taking up 100% of cpu usage. My system details are as follows:
os: debian testing (that's what i've got in my repos, dunno what version it is) firefox: Mozilla Iceweasel 2.0.0.3 xorg: 7.1.0-16 m/c: AMD 2600 XP+ custom compiled kernel: 2.6.20-6
i tried running strace -c on firefox for a few seconds, and this is what i've got: % time seconds usecs/call calls errors syscall ------ ----------- ----------- --------- --------- ---------------- 26.62 0.002113 0 4260 2100 readv 50.88 0.004039 2 2318 poll 0.23 0.000018 0 722 gettimeofday 0.00 0.000000 0 269 futex 0.00 0.000000 0 205 102 read 18.86 0.001497 8 192 77 writev 0.00 0.000000 0 140 write 0.00 0.000000 0 60 mmap2 3.41 0.000271 5 58 munmap 0.00 0.000000 0 39 ioctl ------ ----------- ----------- --------- --------- ---------------- 100.00 0.007938 8263 2279 total
Can someone kindly point out what's happening? Or atleast give me pointers of looking at other places where i can find out what's going on...
Thanks a lot!
