Hi all,
Got the thing working in jiffy..sharing here so that other may benefit
The ISP assigns static IP settings. You just have to set those and restart IP stack to get the thing working.
The cable modem provided is sold by askey corporation (www.askey.com) and contains an web interface along with a stripped down DHCP server. DHCP server is useless as the ISP assigns static ip. In case you booted from Knoppix disc, the box may take IP from the server which needs to be changed.
The IP assigned is fiewalled/translated somehow...since I am not able to access it from outside world. Need to do more RnD on this on the coming weekend if possible.
Any more info required then please ping me :-)
