If I want to run TallyErp on virtualbox I need to have a licenses copy of win? Currently I have no spare License . It does not make sense to me to have a license & to run linux

Running an OS in a virtual machine does not give you the liberty to break it's lic. terms.
Yes, you need a XP lic. irrespective of how you use it i.e. virtualization or via rdesktop.

The use of any Microsoft software requires you to own a licensed copy of the same, that too under the terms of the EULA. What happened to the wine part?
