I have a CD/DVD writer that does not read any medium. The physical function like eject/insert of the tray works OK. On insert, the external panel LED lights up a for a moment and then nothing.
I suspect the LED/head is gone. I want to explore the option of getting it repaired. If you know of any place (in Mumbai) that handles such repairs please contact me off list.

For long term usage, repair is not advisable. A new Sony DVD writer can be got for approx. Rs.2500/-

Yup, on ebay.in. It turns out quite a few vendors are from Mumbai (probably from Lam. Rd.). Don't know if they honor the same price at the stores.

Why go to ebay, come to ronybay.in.mumbai. Write to me offline. This price is for oem drives. Box pack is approx Rs.400/- extra.
