It was an interesting exchange - but I never saw the "tab" quote style that others complained about - it always looked like > to me. Just thought I'd like to add to the mystery.

Ok, check whether your mails are going out in text or in html. If it's the latter, then our mailing list is converting it to text before sending out. The References section at the bottom of your mail gave me a clue.

I think you have solved the mystery, Philip. I have added mm.ilub-bom.org.in as a "plain text domain" in Thunderbird's send mail configuration. This should solve the problem permanently.
