"Professional RedHat 9 Linux Secrets" by Naba Barkakati has an excellent chapter 22 pg 648 for literature on how to go abt System and Network security.
There is a point to point explanation on the foll topics
1. Learning a security test methodology. 2. Understanding Computer security audits. 3. A review on all security testing tools. 4. Performing risk analysis. 5. Establishing a security policy.
along with the ususal encryption e.t.c.
If any novice (like me) is attempting a go @ Network and System security, this one is worth a dekko.
And for experts I suggest it proves as a handbook.

MITM attacks: you might want to have a look at

but this is for starters... and u have already faced it... I have some PDFs from BlackHat security on MITM attacks. . Tell me if u'd like to have a look at them. I'll mail them offline.
