Wonder if a similar move should be initiated for the PMs in waiting here.

Companies and Govt. sponsored agencies/projects have the responsibility of actively convincing various responsible bodies to adopt the relevant policies. For example, NRCFOSS {sh,c}ould have taken up that responsibility - being a Govt. sponsored project. The community has certain responsibility but limited resources unlike Sun, Redhat or NRCFOSS

what resources you need to respond on a wiki?

One can collect information on a wiki. You need to get to work to ensure that the collected information is put to good use. And that is where Sun/Redhat/NRCFOSS and others come into the picture.
Can we be positive? Many of us may not even know the mandate of NRCFOSS and whether they are allowed to venture into all this. Assuming they are not just wandering into eGovernance but treat that as a part of the mandate,
Can we all write to NRCFOSS e.g
to fund and organise statewise meets on FOSS and egovernance with following agenda
1. Demo Best experiences and practices 2. bring at least one MP (preferably a minister) to the forum 3. provide forum for critics 4. Involve LUG in a transparent way through this kind of mailing list 5. set example by sponsoring a project in each state that truly answer the needs 6. Explain priorities
with variation as applicable in each state. LUG meets should discuss such matters online/offline and give concrete suggestions ( I donot want to snatch away the fun of the armchair LUGGIST to criticise one and all. This appeal is for those who wish to contribute also)

Dear Jituji,
Good suggestions. In terms of policy interventions, NRCFOSS has played a very positive role in the past and I guess this is a good occasion as any to acknowledge the same.

They are already doing the above afaik. BTW what happened to the NRCFOSS lab at VJTI. According to some the lab has been "hijacked" by VJTI.
Besides this thread is about influencing policy makers, not about promoting FOSS. Can we start a separate thread for "NRCFOSS roadmap for Promoting FOSS".

No one has unlimited resources, especially in these times. However, more and more policy makers are becoming aware of open source/free software and we can speed up the process by writing to policy makers and asking them to make FOSS a part of the election manifestos.

Maybe my brain is sluggish on a lazy Saturday evening. I am suggesting that we *community* write to Indian policy makers. Where did vendors or "persons behind the campaign"come in before we even started anything?

We should write to all the major political parties. I was hesitant to volunteer because I am backlogged. If someone can work on the first draft, I'll be happy to work with them. Else, I will try to put a draft together by the end of the coming week.

As I had suggested earlier, make religion community cult or even party related live + install distros. For software techies it should not be very difficult. Nothing is more flattering for a 'neta' to see his face on a CD and on the desktop. He will personally distribute these CDs to everyone. Do give this idea a serious thought.

Hmm. I dont make the community, but i had responded. Also as far as "Initial comments" go, it's quite ok. A few typos and repetitions that will straighten out. What next?
