What is the difference between GNOME & KDE type display?
Try 'em both out and see for yourself ;-)
Seriously, they are 2 different GUI (I know they are called DE's) interfaces. The primary difference being GNOME is based on Gtk+ and KDE is based on Qt.

I never use the HTML to post the mails, specially to our lug group. I don't know how it goes with HTML ???
Any way. Thanks!

I tried both. They are really different, but I want to know the fundamental difference between them. Why they are different? Where they are use differently?

Check out developer.kde.org and developer.gnome.org
These places have lots of whitepapers that will answer your questions in plain English.

Hotmail defaults to HTML these days, I guess. I've seen their new ugly looking site. Give it up. See if there's an option to disbale HTML somewhere.

GNOME is 5 letters and KDE is 3 letters.
There will be a lot of technical and strategic differences. Architecture, development model, target users, etc.
KDE was the only full blown DE once upon a time. But it was based on Qt. Qt is a C++-based (wonderfully designed and maintained) class library for doing GUI apps on *nix, windows, and linux/embedded.
But the Qt toolkit was distributed under a non-Free license. Which means that even KDE was not fully Free. GNUers did not did not like that. So they wanted to develop a truly Free DE for linux. Thus, GNOME.
GNOME is based on Gtk - the Gimp ToolKit. Gimp stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program. Gtk was made for Gimp. GNOME is built on Gtk.
Now Qt is also distributed under a Free license - GNU GPL. So KDE is Free. Now KDE and GNOME are working towards interoperability.
My personal opinion is that GNOME looks better but KDE works better.
