i wud have deleted all entries from /etc/securetty. that wud mean that root wud not be able to log in from any terminal. Assuming that i dont run services that allow root to login remotely, one can use the root account only via the su command. i originally thought that this was what the statement meant.

Well...i cant think of what this may mean. guess philip was right, the statements seem to be wrong.
