not my job - wxPython mailing list has excellent support, and you dont need to install wxWidgets to install wxPython

must be something wrong with your machine - 2.2 million ppl *have* downloaded this without problems - and why download wxWidgets? You need to download the wxPython source which contains a private tweaked copy of wxGtk which will make the installation smooth.

actually there is no real need now - from monday, you will have the whole thing preinstalled and running on the web at http://avsap.org.in all you need to do is create a company and wade into your test drive.

file wxWidgets-2.6.1.tar.bz2 will tell you the correct file type. Make sure you didn't download the redirect page instead.
