It is worth it if you can get it shipped to the US to someone who is visiting. A couple of my friends have the sheeva plug and run it as a NAS/router/gateway/dns for the home network. It is pretty nifty. More computing power than you would imagine from such a low power device.
For a NAS, you could try this: http://www.seagate .com/www/en-us/products/network_storage/freeagent_dockstar/?cmpid=ppc-_-freeagentdockstar-_-y-_-us-_-seagate_DockStar-_-a&SR=sr3_172862990_yh#tTabContentOverview
Which is 2.6K INR, but without any drive attached. Will have to check on the hackability of the device.

As the vodafone popat would say, "$30 mein to tablet sunghne ko bhi nahi milega". If this was possible, the Chinese would have already made it.

Everybody and the dog fell for this one. I hazily recollect the Rs.15000 HCL home computer. Launched in 1999. they collected advances galore, then failed to deliver for months. 9 months after the first launch most took their money back, without interest. A few souls went to the consumer court and got obsolete machines with intermittent rams, which would cause the systems to crash. Ofcourse 98 would crash anyway, so nobody was any wiser.

IT's the same old news that was at the start of this thread. Am sure all news channels found it a good filler.
