I am fairly sure nothing has changed in the local mail server since 2005. Mails to the list were just fine until it came back online after the last years outage.
HELP. I hate mail servers.
Helo command rejected: Host not found
-helo_name debamd.localnet
Seems like the new avatar of the list server requires the HELO name to be resolvable. Why don't you relay your list emails via MTNL's (or Gmail's, easier to setup I guess) servers?

host_address 192.168.0.16.43515
Is this syntax right? Just curious.

This is the list server not resolving mail.sparc.net, which is not resolvable anyway.

MTNL has stopped allowing relaying afaik.
I did some checking. The list server (ilug-bom.org.in has no MX records, so mails are delivered to the A record which is 74.207.228.67) requires all of the following resolving properly for it to accept emails:
1. The connection must be from an IP address that resolves in the reverse direction. 2. The reverse-resolved name in (1) must forward-resolve too. 3. The name used in the HELO/EHLO needs to resolve as well. 4. And finally, the domain of the address in the MAIL FROM should resolve too.
Best would be to relay through Gmail.

My mistake. You are right. But since the IP address is the same, no harm done.
(Note that SMTP allows fallback to A record in case of nonexistent MX record, so there is configuration error either).

I wonder if you'd be willing to update your exim configuration and set it to sparc.net?
