Staroffice is bad in this respect.

This depends on the aj though. You can definitely interest someone using VSNL and troubled by the email policy about how to run a mail server. But stay away from sendmail.cf. I would suggest postfix or qmail for a demo.
Setup two machines, one as a workstation and the other as a server.
That will help in attracting the appropriate kind of crowd.

This is a function of your window manager.
See how many desktops/workspaces it can support
And you can run more than one X server too.

Add to that, a whole lot of tools that make your computer using life better.
The ability to send mails using your own mail server, run your own web server, lack of viruses, a certain level of separation of user capabilities, TeX, the ability to script mundane tasks.....

The lousy thing is that I can't get broadband just yet.

Then you can't afford to purchase it for Linux either. The Linux versions are mostly server editions, and very expensive.

Hi,
I believe around 12 linuxers went to various colleges
on August 25. Can someone please give us a small
description of that day's events?
I would like to know which colleges were visited,
what was the student turnout, what topics were
discussed etc.
The site http://www.linux10.org/ was set up by
some Linux enthusiasts in Silicon Valley as a way to
co-ordinate the birthday celebrations there. There
were links to news about birthday celebrations in
other countries as well. I was a trifle disappointed
to see India absent.
Perhaps ILUG-BOM can submit it's account of activties
as an Indian contribution?

I have installed GNU/Linux RHL 7.1 system on my AMD Athlon beast. I
haven't used it much since, but there were absolutely no problems during
installation and during regular use also. I guess since Cyrix and AMD
(don't know about M2) are x86 compatible processors, there *should not*
be any problems.

Shailesh.
hi!
to make better use of my free time in office, I want to start an
internal mailing facility. All clients(about 100) will be
using microsoft outlook. We already have a company mailing system in
place, for within and outside india offices.
my mailing server will be only for bombay office, so no outside access
or mailing will happen.
I've never installed or administered a mailing software, so I was hoping
I'd get pointers on what to start with and how
and any gotchas u guys know.
tia,
kishor

We mostly send and receive text data, but do not know in what format does it
send. You can contact me if you want to see it.
