I am not sure what you are talking too! ;-).
I am trying to compare C and Java, based solely on
my experience. What I meant is OS, if we all use/fix GNU/Linux
as OS then do we really need Java?
Because Java programs are slow and my experience is that
C programs can be written faster than Java. Also as far as
I know, Java is written in C too.
Amish.
P.S. I agree many would debate, so I say its my opinion,
experience and belief.
i have a samsung 52x cdrom drive, which has recently started giving me
problems
it used 2 work fine with my previous rhl7.1 installation.now i use rhl7.3.
whenever i try 2 use the "eject" option after right clicking the cdrom
icon
on the desktop, the hdd is accessed for some secs, then the cdrom light
glows
for some secs, but the cdrom tray doesn't open.
the same thing happens even if i try 2 manually eject the cdrom tray by
pressing the button below the cdrom tray.
i don't seem 2 understand the problem.
the cdrom drive is 2 yrs old, & i haven't done ne cd drive cleaning since.
is
it bcoz of this?
also plz throw some light as 2 how do i clean the cdrom drive.

Do all Java compilers implement the specifications as they are?
Don't specifications change with versions? Are all JVMs alike? Of
course, I don't program in Java so I won't know but I heard about
VJ++ and Microsoft's JVM bundled with WinXP creating some issues.
And I also found this:

Yes, because that's what I'd essentially do with Java too. I'd
write Java code and it ties users down to a Java Virtual Machine.
BTW, I heard about something called "GNU Autotools". They are
what enable GNU to provide portability to their software across a
wide range of platforms, without much ado. And I won't buy the
"unmaintainable" software argument since there's a lot more to
maintainability than just a PL.

Eh? Just to remind you:
Garbage Collection:
Java (yes, in-built)
C++ (yes, through GC libraries)
OOP Support:
Java (yes, in-built)
C++ (yes, in-built and more complete than Java)
Dynamic typing:
Java (yes, in-built)
C++ (yes, in-built, plus in-built static typing too)
PS: Have you, by any chance, read "Thinking in Java"?
Also, I didn't get this message in my mailbox so I had to pick it
up from the Archives. This might break threading.

Dear Sameer,
Saw your website ... it is quite good. But you have got some points terribly
wrong. You have written that "Linux is an operating system originally
created by Linus Torvalds" ... but that's absolute crap. The name Linux
doesn't refer to the OS. It's the kernel & you might know, an OS is not
complete without the different tools like compilers, editors etc. Those
tools were taken from the GNU project & that's why we prefer to call the OS
as GNU/Linux. There are other OSes from the GNU project with a different
kernel like the GNU/Hurd.
The GNU project & eventually the Free Software Foundation was founded by a
God like man called Richard M. Stallman whom we lovingly refer to as RMS.
It's very strange to note that you being a Linuxer & a Lugger don't know
anything about RMS. HOW ON EARTH CAN YOU REFER TO THE FREE SOFTWARE
FOUNDATION & GNU/LINUX WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT RMS ? It's really very
shameful. In your website you have mentioned about the GPL & Copyleft. Have
you ever wondered who devised all these wonderful concepts ? That's RMS. I
really wonder whether you know anything about GNU/Linux at all 'cos you
think Unix & GNU/Linux share the "same command set". This concept is totally
wrong. Though GNU/Linux was conceived as a Unix clone, it has developed to
be a much more sophisticated OS with MANY commands which are yet to be
implemented on Unix.
You are very lucky to have posted this query on an Indian LUG 'cos if it
were a US or any western LUG, you would have been flamed & spammed like
hell. Don't worry. We Indians seem to tolerate even the most blatant
mistakes, & this one, seems to be a very trivial one.
Regards,
The Linuxer [B.Ghose] (You needn't be a geek to know all these things. I am
only 19 year old.)
N.B. Have you ever wondered who wrote the GCC compiler or the wonderful
Emacs Text Editor ? My Guru RMS did. For more info on RMS visit www.gnu.orgwww.stallman.org
And please modify your website. It's aweful.
========================================================================
Microsoft is not the answer. It's the question. No [or GNU/Linux] is the
answer.

Hi Luggers :-))
I am thinking of building a custom distribution using the knoppix installer
with just the limited number of debian packages that I need. I want to
distribute it to college students. At present I am reading the documentation
available on the knoppix site. I want to know if anybody has done this. If
yes, then what are the issues involved with doing it? Also how much time
would I require to get through it?
I know I will get the answers to my questions when I go through the process.
But its always better to ask somebody rather than re-invent the wheel ;-)
Cheers !!
