What are list members experience about Red Hat Enterprise Linux support and services? It is worth paying huge amount of money for support? After reading article on lwn about Enterprise Linux: is it broken? (http://lwn.net/Articles/109527/) I wonder whitebox Linux initiatives worth following. Is it true that numbers of Red Hat supports call are found on popular Linux news group? Regards Komal

According to the report, the technician attending the problem continuously tapped the disk for two hours so that the client could transfer his data to another harddisk.

Filesystem Check

I wanted to know if there is any 'scandisk' sort of utility for Linux. I know about "fsck", but it warns me against running it on mounted filesystems. It doesn't run even in the single user mode. Actually, after I went thru the startup scripts (Fedora Core 1), I saw that it checked for a command line argument ("forcefsck") and ran the checking utility. That worked. But is there a better solution than that? Hi all, Consider a file with read-only permissions for all that is r--r--r-- is a directory with permissions of 777. The owner of the file is say a user "abc". 1.Any other user say "xyz" can write to this file after opening it with vi using a forced write(wq!). 2.After the forced write "xyz" becomes the owner of the file. What is the meaning of these?

Hello In top command output I see aio/0,ato/0,events/0,kacpid,kblocked/0,pdflush,scsi_eh_o,migration/0 without any command evoked. What are all these command or process resoponcible? thank you Komal
