This article tracks which certifications are likely to be hot in 2006
and the RHCE certification topped the list. Interesting comment at the
end of this article on the demand for Linux professionals outstripping
the demand for general Microsoft administration skills.

#1: Red Hat Certified Engineer
Vendor: Red Hat
Reader Interest Score (out of 20): 17
Buzz Score (out of 10): 8

If you're looking for yet another sign that Linux is becoming a real
player, then you've got it. While Linux certifications have regularly
made our Hot Cert list over the past few years -- in fact, the RCHE
has appeared on this list since we started it for 2002 -- this is the
first time one has ever taken the top spot. Quite a feat, especially
when you consider that the vast majority of CertCities.com's readers
are Windows professionals.
So how did this Linux title break through to No. 1? Having a stellar
reputation never hurts, and Red Hat is well known for the quality of
its RHCE lab exam, which tests candidates' hands-on skills with Red
Hat Enterprise. "It's a truly challenging certification," commented
Dulaney. "It carries a lot more respect than others in the market."
But the title wouldn't go anywhere unless its skills were seen as
marketable. And according to Morris, high-level Linux skills may be
more marketable than some might think. "These days…it seems that
demand for a great Linux person outstrips the demand for general
Microsoft administration skills," commented Morris. "Not that
Microsoft is going anyplace, but serious Linux networking is more
[rare]. While [this is] not my personal area of interest, I highly
recommend that others look at it with keen interest."

we have a kerberos and samba server running in our lab for
authenticating the linux and windows user respectively. both use
openldap 2.2.23 as the backend. The problem is we need to
synchronize the password in both kerberos and samba.
we tried including an overlay called smbk5pwd that comes with openldap3.
but we were not able to do that. How do we include smbk5pwd in
openldap2.2.23 ? is there any other solution for synchronizing the
password in samba and kerberos. we are using MIT kerberos V

Hi all,
Does there exist a sort of umbrella installation mechanism that could take
care of the specific ways of installing various software distribution
mechanisms. I mean if the software is a tar file it should extract it, and
then provide me with a dialog box for configure script flags and execute
make and make install. Or for rpms it should execut the command rpm with
appropriate flags. If it does not exist do you think there is any merit in
trying to build one?? I know its just a gui for certain commands but if it
helps non-programmer users why not??

Dear all,
One of my colleagues is having a problem with his squid proxy running on
RH9 with two ethernet cards.. He isn't a member of this list so I asked
him to forward his problem to me. The mail that he sent me follows. I
would appreciate your help.
----
My proxy IP
eth0 ip is 10.124.24.48
Sub :255.255.248.0
Default gateway :10.124.24.1
My ISP network is 220.227.114.170
sub net :255.255.255.248
default gateway :220.227.114.169
I have configured squid proxy in it and whenever i configure both the
gateways the squid does not work.
Actually to get the internet accessed from other offices i need my
private
gateway to be configured in squid machine.
so pls give me a solution.

Regards,
NMK.

Subject: [Ilugc] All FSUGs/GLUGs IRC Meet: Jan 1, 2006
To: ilugc(a)ae.iitm.ac.in
Cc: fsf-tn(a)gnu.org.in
Greetings!
There were discussions in Indian GNU/Linux Users'
Group, Mumbai on where to have the January month's
meeting.
I had an idea. What if all our FSUGs/GLUGs members
from all over India meet together, online?. How would
it be if we all meet in the beginning of the New Year?
After discussion with the channel ops, I am happy to
call for an all-India FSUGs/GLUGs members meet on
January 1, 2006 at 1500 hrs IST at #gnu-india on
irc.freenode.net.
No agenda as such. The idea is to get to meet folks
from different FSUGs/GLUGs, get to know what
FSUGs/GLUGs have been and are working on, free
software ideas/suggestions/plans/activities for 2006.
I will broadcast this message to as many FSUGs/GLUGS
that I am member of and that I know of. Please feel
free to spread the word.
Thanking you all and looking forward to meeting you
all,
SK
