GLUG meet

Hi, This is regarding the GLUG meet, I'd like to request the organizers to have this month's meet on 19th (Sunday). Venue could be either KRESIT/MET/HBCSE or any other. Could someone please arrange for MET...its been a long time since we've had a meet there. Topics of speech: (The one which I missed to speak during the last meet) 1) DTrace - Dynamic tracing mechanism on Solaris 10 and Open Solaris - Sameer Niphadkar 2) (I believe we had one more candidate, with whome I spoke during the last meet) He was suppose to talk on GRUB - configuration and pre-processing. 3) All other entries are welcome as well. List admin policies

Just to notify everyone on this list. If the list admin notices someone abusing the list guidelines, that person is mailed off-list. Also note that there are multiple list admins, and as far as possible they try to react in the same way to a particular action. At the same time, keep in mind that they are human and some things might slip through especially if one is too busy to pay attention to the list for some time. Building RPMs

Hello All, Can anyone post a note on building rpms from source rpms? I have looked on the net, even the rpm website but I goes a little bouncer. I have even created an rpm folder with some subfolders called BUILD RPMS SOURCE ... as per a site's instructions but I am not able to get any rpm --rebuild command to work. It gives an error of command not found. I use Mandrake 10.1 and its package manager shows no such package 'rpm-build' or 'rpm*' even in the full list. What is this part about setting environment variables for the rpm building? One site say that the source rpm has to be installed first and then it is rebuilt. Its all confusing. Distribution Release: Debian GNU/Linux 3.1

Hi all , The long wait is over: "The Debian Project is pleased to announce the official release of Debian GNU/Linux version 3.1 codenamed 'sarge' after nearly three years of constant development. With the development of the new debian-installer, this release features a new, modular and sophisticated installation routine with integrated hardware detection and unattended installation capabilities. The installation is available in about thirty languages and includes configuration of the X server for many graphic cards. This release includes a number of up-to-date large software packages, such as the K Desktop Environment 3.3 (KDE), the GNOME desktop environment 2.8...." Find out more in the release announcement and release notes. The biggest distribution release ever, Debian 3.1 comes on no fewer than 29 CDs (binary + source); these can be downloaded from one of the Debian mirrors. Quick links to the 2 binary DVD images for i386 (MD5): debian-31r0-i386-binary-1.iso (4,470MB) and debian-31r0-i386-binary-2.iso (4,224MB). Champagne anyone? -- Amit.

Hi, I am not sure though, but I had heard something about Puppy Linux which is superb small..(mostly works with just 64 MB of RAM.) You can try that distro and find information about it from the following links. Sophisticated users now buy "debating the choice between licence software or open source software" The microserf needs to be reminded that opensource software is licenced software and this licence allows the user to do a lot more for a lot less. Apart from the fact that this software actually allows the user to use his PC instead of chasing sundry worms. Maybe FN could write up a nice rebuttal in the Financial Express. rgds jtd
