Asrock MB refuses Mandrake.

Hello All, Mandrake 10.1 does not install on the Asrock 845 chipset P 4i45 GV mobo. On booting from the first CD, it gave the initial 2 boot options of direct install/upgrade or custom. Then the first loading of the kernel starts and then there is a screen with a blue title bar and a task bar saying "Welcome to Mandrake...." Thats it. The system does not move further. Even Ctrl+Alt+Del does not reboot the system. To cross check linux compatibility with this mobo, live Knoppix 3.2 was tried and it booted fine and gave me the desktop and even played mp3s from the hdd. In case this may be of any help, the first line in the knoppix boot up text messages was "PCI Device 00:f1.1 not available due to conflicts". Any clues? Redhat Linux Customer (?)

Hi all, I am actually a student and a GNU/Linux enthusiast. I actually, came to know about GNU/Linux in 2003 December as a GUI operating system. I was under the impression that it is just Linux(GNU/Linux) and is CUI based. I had no idea that developments had taken place. I was going through magazines like PCQUEST, DIGIT and found that DIGIT had given Redhat Linux 9.0 CD's to subscribers. Luckily one my friend was the subscriber of DIGIT and had obtained the CD. I wanted to try this out and ultimately had messed up my computer. Later on went through manuals and stuff and got it set right...Now I use Redhat Linux 9.0 My friend and I have installed Redhat Linux 9.0 in many of our friend's computers FOR FREE.... So shall we call them customers?? NO...nah!..not at all... Dear Rajeev, Would it be possible for u to talk on Gaming on Linux in this meet. Thats the only reason why windows is still on my machine and many others'. I tried wine and cedega, though cedega was comparatively better, i never got the games to work like they did on windows. I also tried a game ported to linux by loki games, again the sound was not working though everthing else was really great once i got it to work (after invoking the game with an LD_ASSUME_KERNEL 2.4). Maybe my machine is not good enough, its a PIII 1GHz with 256MB RAM and 64MB Nvidia GeForce2 MX400 card. Really looking forward to ur talk (whenever it is) Anand.

Any way the entry in menu.lst is root (hd0,11) rootnoverify (hd0,10) chainloader +1 This will load the bootloader installed at the beginning of this partition and should give you the lilo menu. BIG FAT WARNING: I have never used this except for booting windoze. Infact i have never used grub and lilo together. No. If you have already booted into a distro grub does not load the kernel. Issuing the boot command will quit grub and bring you back to the bash prompt. Infact you can get the grub shell before booting anything at all. Just press c when the grub menu appears at boot. Pressing tab will give you a list of commands. Typing help and a command will give you details of that command. Typing a command and pressing tab will try to auto complete. rgds jtd

Help w/ internet on Tata LG LSP-345

I am running Debian testing/unstable on a IBM 390X laptop. I have a Tata LG LSP-345 fixed wireless phone. I have procured the (serial port) data cable from Tata Indicom directly because I was having intermittent problems using a cable from lamington road. I googled and found this link: http://btbytes.com/2004/11/tata-indicom-linux-lg-lsp345.html I copied the wvdial.conf to my machine. It worked for some days but then suddenly stopped working. This is what I get: root@bryonia:~# wvdial tata --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0 --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: ATZ --> Sending: ATQ0 --> Re-Sending: ATZ --> Modem not responding. root@bryonia:~# Need I add that I can get online frm winduhs pretty effortlessly. Tata ofcourse provides no support for linux. I have this in my wvdial.conf: --------------- [Modem0] Modem = /dev/ttyS0 Baud = 115200 SetVolume = 0 Dial Command = ATDT init1 = ATZ init2 = AT+CRM=1 FlowControl = Hardware (CRTSCTS) [Dialer tata] Username = internet Password = internet Phone = #777 Stupid Mode = 1 Inherits = Modem0 --------------- I have tried removnig the spaces before and after the = signs with no effect. INODE is a unique entity within a filesystem. Each file has a unique INODE.It is represented by the INODE no. File name is just one of the fields of the INODE. Also, changing the FileName shd not change the File Inode.
