Hi I have Nokia 6670 mobile. And I have installed Suse 10 on my pc. When I connect phone to my PC It detects it as modem. It doesnt show removable disk as windows shows ? What should I do ? Please Help Neel

Help for Internet

I'm using Novell Linux desktop and MTNL broadband Internet. Some sites are get open properly but very slow, while some site name does not get resolve at all. I put DNS entrie manually in resolve.conf but no use. If I dig the site and got the IP associated with site I can brows the site. Pls someone help me. DD

Segmentation fault, wvdial

i'm connecting to the internet with a reliance lg-lsp350r using wvdial.. there is no problem connecting to the internet but after a few hours it disconnects giving the error "Segmentation fault"... i tried in FC4 and in ubuntu 5.10... same thing is happening in both operating systems... however it is running smoothly on cluster knoppix 3.6... any suggestions as to how i can fix this???? -- javed...

Kernel Panic, Can't boot to rescue mode.

Dear all, I' am getting a kernel panic: no init found on my RHEL AS 3 database server. This happened after the system was rebooted after UPS maintenance activity. I know the best solution would be to enter rescue mode and examine the files. But I have a strange problem. When I enter rescue mode and it attempts to mount /mnt/sysimage, instead of getting the shell, the screen gets distorted with error messages. The error lines do not appear one below the other but diagonally. Something like this: errorno 5: input/output error some binary characters you may safely reboot the system now. Also, when I try have a look at the partition labels with druid, it works okay till the manual/automatic disk partitioning screen. After that, it says "Cannot read partition table. The partition table needs to be recreated and all data will be lost". We have configured LVM on the system with four scsi disks. Ther server is IBM xseries 365. The sytem alarm LED is off. I googled for the whole of yesterday night , and also called a few experts, but their solution was all the same...rescue...chroot...fsck. etc. I know the system is more or less dead with a bad superblock, but has any of you experienced the distorted screen in rescue mode before? And yes, please don't ask me to RTFM because I've been doing that the whole night. Also, getting official support from RH would take time as these servers were shipped from Chennai. I am not inviting any flames here, I am not asking any of you to do my research as well. All I'm asking for are inputs from your experience. Thanks a lot. Regards NMK.

Thats exactly what I want to say. But its not feasible to hack through every problem that I encounter in GNU/Linux. I already spent a lot of time to find out a way to get my touchpad working flawlessly in Fedora Core 2. I agree with Kenneth's view that Linux is for everyone and not for the 'elite'. I do not know how you are going to meet the FSF India's goal of spreading Free Software to the masses (especially in rural areas), if you think otherwise. I would love to hear Dr. Nagarjuna's views on this. To strengthen my point regarding what Mark Shuttleworth was talking about that day, I can site the example of how Ubuntu has decided not to include the developer tools in their desktop seed. Doubting Thomases are invited to view the debate on this at the Ubuntu FAQ. The need to take GNU/Linux to the masses has been clearly and repeatedly stated. I love hacking, maybe more than what some people on this list do. But I do _not_ have the time to hack around every odd problem I encounter. Just switching over to Windoze would have a much simpler solution for many people in my position. However now that this whole discussion is becoming more an more of a flame war, I would want to desist from participating in it. The sole intention of my initial post was to help out people who have been encountering the same problem as myself, and not to beg for needless advice from so-called 'gyaani' people.

Know not what to say!

Well I have had enough. I had made a simple post to help out the multitude of people who I know are not shifting or opting for GNU/Linux because of their IM problems. I am appalled to hear that people find my pompous attitude disgusting. Actually its me who should have been disgusted long ago. Its strange that people on this mailing list can not take some simple tips in a healthy way. People have given me loads of 'gyan' on how to configure Gaim, Kopete and the like. Someone also pointed out that Mark had asked us to leave the WIndows users alone, and concentrate on new users. Interesting point, but can you tell me how you would keep the 'new' user 'glued' to GNU/Linux after they find that they can not use their favourite IM service from behind the proxy? Not everyone has the energy to scour the net and hack around to arrive at a solution. I have the time to do it, but hardly any one else has. So Mr. Philip, Mr. Joshi, and the others, if you can not stand some healthy tips, do not stand them, but do not spoil the atmosphere by your raves and rants!

(no subject)

Hi All, We Have added route by using route add <ip> <gateway> the added ip is in different network. Now the problem is we are able to ping the that ip but not able to traceroute the machine.. it shows multiple interface found. and if we use traceroute -i <ip> interface .. It drops the trace route packet.. remember WE ARE ABLE TO PING THE SERVER.. Both the machine are solaris machines.. Any ideas?? ssh as root?

hi, i have 10 websites on a particular server. Each site has its own user and is housed on the user's home directory. Currently, to maintain each site i ssh into it as that user and do the work. I also have to have root ssh'd in one terminal for restarting apache etc. This means keeping 11 terminals open and remembering which is which. Also when the net connection goes down i have to do a lot of work to relogin on each terminal. How safe would it be if i just used one terminal and su from root for each user as and when required.
