Red Hat Knowledgebase released under Open Publication License

The Red Hat Knowledgebase (http://kbase.redhat.com) has been released under the Open Publication License, v1.0 which may be found at http://www.opencontent.org/openpub/. The Knowledgebase features answers to frequently asked questions like: # How do I install or upgrade an RPM package? # I forgot my root password, how can I get into my system? # How do I create an installation boot disk? # Can I use Red Hat linux as a file server? # How do I join a Windows 2000/2003 Active Directory domain from Linux? # How do I install Windows NT and Linux onto the same machine? # How do I telnet as the root user? # How do I use RPM? What are some general commands that I will use with this application? Also, for whatever reason, I think files have changed on my system but I do not know which ones. Can RPM help? # My Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 system had a kernel panic, an oops message, or is freezing for no apparent reason. USB drive: size mismatch

I have an iball 256mb usb drive. I had previously installed slax on it and now want to install a later version. But when i formatted the drive with both fdisk and cfdisk they had both created 253mb partitions called sda1. But whenever i mount it df -ha shows that the partition is only 179mb. I have tried rebooting the computer since fdisk said the table would be read on next reboot but it fails. [COMMERCIAL] Shunya.in - an India centric slashdot

I started shunya.in when slashdot rejected a story I submitted, as the story was not US centric. Shunya.in is different from slashdot in two ways a) shunya is India centric and b) shunya allows users to register their adsense account with shunya, shunya then displays ads from users adsense accounts next to stories submitted by them. Help on CentOS

Minutes: Mark Shuttleworth's talk at IIT-Bombay

*Minutes of Mark Shuttleworth's talk at IIT-Bombay* The GNU/Linux Users Group of Mumbai held an additional GLUG meet in january at KReSIT, IIT-Bombay. Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth interacted with the GLUG members and shared his views and ideas regarding ``Free Software'' and how it made a perfect business sense. This talk was attended by about 60 people coming from all over the country. Falling short of time, Mark Shuttleworth quickly talked about the following points, apart from answering questions. * Community and its background: Before starting his talk, Mark was eager to know about the Mumbai's GLUG community, its background.. since every GLUG is unique in its own respect. He then talked about his own background and about his ventures. * Ubuntu Organisation Structure: Mark talked about how ubuntu project started and what its goals are, how Ubuntu project is different from Debian yet how both still manage to collaborate with each other, how latest packages are adopted from upstream to make Ubuntu's archives always fresh. * Business Sense: Quoting Mark's own words, ``... knowledge and software are copyable. Their value or quality does not decrease when it is shared..'' According to him, this makes a perfect business sense. Ubuntu project, and all the best things that they produce, will always remain freely accessible to the entire community, individuals or large companies alike. Canonical is in a self sustaining business since it provides software services to organisations which are willing to hire them. Canonical has tied up with LPI and plans to start certification programs for Ubuntu professionals. * Free CD distribution: Mark answered several questions related to free software distribution and the rationale behind it. There are several parts of world where internet access is extremely costly. Free CDs therefore have an important role to play. Some questions were asked about the free CDs that Canonical ships worldwide and how some people tend to misuse the resources. Mark then recalled an incident wherein a `gentoo' fanatic tried to drain out Canonical's money by ordering 500 CDs. * Dapper Drake Preview: Mark gave a brief idea about the upcoming ubuntu release codenamed `Dapper Drake' and why it is going to have a 3 year(desktop)/5 year(server) support cycle and security updates. Dapper is also a distribution which is going to be certified by third party application providers like IBM. Starting from Dapper release, users will have the luxury of a GUI installation program and a single CD which acts as both live and installable. * Freedom Toaster etc. Answering a question related to Freedom Toaster, Mark explained the entire concept behind it and how the whole idea came into a reality during a brainstorming session. We couldn't talk about his space travel however due to lack of time. - tea break Mark personally autographed on Ubuntu CDs and stickers and posed for group photos. [INFO] NTFS in Linux

Hello All, Recently switched over to ntfs in windows just to explore its security level and was quite impressed by its similarity to linux. It gives only r-x access to the windows dir to unpreviledged users, so the chances of a virus writing itself to the c:\windows\ or c:\windows\system32\ folders is practically eliminated. One user cannot view the other's documents. The next issue was mounting the ntfs partition in linux. It got mounted easily without any hassles ( Kubuntu 5.10 ) but it was read only. No amount of tweaking the mount defaults changed it. Then I found this utility that I installed and now I am able to mount as well as write to the ntfs partition even as a user by simply replacing the file system type in fstab from 'ntfs' to 'captive-ntfs'. http://www.jankratochvil.net/project/captive/ Regards, Rony. ___________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Webhosting in India

I think now there are other requirements by RBI and some banks which require you to fill forms for wire transfer, each months! Thanks Krushna.
