[OT] Lenovo laptops

Hi guys, I just came across a slashdot article ( http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/04/17/124244 ) which said that the user base of IBM Lenovo laptops is falling just because they are now being manufactured/owned by the Chinese. I just want to get your opinions. Some say that the quality has indeed deteriorated while others say its just psychological. Many feel that these people are just plain biased while some say that the Chinese are less accountable than their american counter parts. Personally, I am not biased against the Chinese but Chinese goods tend to have the "cheap" feel to them and I think that they have definitely lowered the quality and have cut costs at the same time while trying to improve their margins. Hi, The European-Union funded FLOSSWorld project aims to enhance the level of global awareness related to FLOSS among various sectors like industry, academia, government, etc. As a part of this project, we plan to conduct a series of surveys related to FLOSS, to understand the impact and usage of FLOSS among developers, employers, government officials and educational institutions across India.Please refer to www.flossworld.org for more details about the FLOSSWorld project. My Compaq Presario 2203AL will be turning 2 years this October, and till date I have had absolutely no issues whatsoever. It has survived 3 not-so-gentle falls and some pretty rigorous usage (downloads running for hours on end, fairly regular linux compilation, and so on). On the otherhand I have seen my room-mates' Acer Travelmate give some minor issues. One of his speakers went kaput, and until very recently he had trouble configuring ACPI in GNU/Linux. Interesting article. This reminds me of 1995 when the Internet opened up in India. One of my friends, a nuclear scientist at TIFR (remember that the atom kickers were the pioneers of the net) sniffed his nose at the great onrush of people into this exclusive territory and called it the "lumpenization of the Internet." Copy/Paste from tty1 to tty2

Hello All, Postfix, mutt and fetchmail are now up and running. Is there any way I can copy a url within a message in mutt in one terminal and paste it in the go option ( go to url) in lynx opened in the second terminal? How do I secure my fetchmailrc? Hi all, Today amny members turned up at HBCSE to put up an experimental mesh. Fred Pook walked us thru several aspects of deployment. We will be on the job on Sunday ironing out thingies. cpio archive size limit.

Hi. I created a cpio archive of my / directory, excluding unwanted directories like /proc, /tmp, and /dev called fullbackup.cpio. The size of the archvie is 5.1 GB. Now when I try to extract or list the contents of this cpio archive, I get the following error. [root@appsdms /]# cpio -itv < fullbackup.cpio cpio: standard input is closed: Value too large for defined data type Is there a limit for the size that a cpio archive can have? My filesystem is ext3 (RHEL AS3). I wanted to backup this data to tape, and wanted to test it by saving it to my hard disk first. Googling for the exact error didn't help apart from mentioning some 2GB file size limit for ext3 (??) Regards, NMK.
