I installed Fedora Core 5 all worked well , got the latest version of
Eclipse downloaded and it seems I have run out of space to extract it .
I have the 3 questions :
1. how much space is alloted to each folder by default as the folders
seem to show a free space value .
2. how do I resize the space alloted to the folders by default .
3. how do I check to see how much space each folder in / is using ??
here is the output of : df -a -H
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00
8.8G 8.2G 95M 99% /
proc 0 0 0 - /proc
sysfs 0 0 0 - /sys
devpts 0 0 0 - /dev/pts
/dev/hda3 104M 18M 82M 18% /boot
tmpfs 248M 0 248M 0% /dev/shm
none 0 0 0 - /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc
sunrpc 0 0 0 - /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs
automount(pid1774) 0 0 0 - /net
/dev/fuse 49G 47G 1.8G 97% /root/mydocuments
/dev/fuse 22G 14G 8.1G 63% /c
Cheers ,
Francis
We have installed Lyris ListManager on a Redhat AS 3 server. It uses
ports 25 (for mailing) and 82 (for web-based admin). We also want to run
Sendmail on this server so that mails can be sent using the PHP mail()
function.
How do we configure an alternative port for the Sendmail server? The
second (major) problem is that the Sendmail user was deleted as part of
hardening the system (since Sendmail was not need at the time). Now, we
find that starting and stopping Sendmail is not smooth at all. The
Sendmail client (sm-client) shows its status as "service stopped but
subsys locked".
Any hints/prods in the right direction are welcome.

Hi,
Just saw this:
Biometrics for PAN
The Income Tax department seeks inputs from organizations engaged in
providing biometric solutions to ensure uniqueness of Permanent Account
Number (PAN). http://incometaxindia.gov.in/archive/bio1907_19072006.doc
Are there any companies that provide such solutions using FOSS in India?
It might be useful for them.

I read this at wikipedia but assumed, it ran only over
DICT protocol.
Thanks for the link.

I'll try and resolve dependencies, if any. I know, I
am using way too old GNU/Linux. I plan to buy a new
HDD next month and would be installing Fedora Core 5
and Kubuntu on it. Possibly, would be successful on
dual booting.

WordWeb is based on the WordNet project at Princeton.
Take a look at http://wordnet.princeton.edu
WordNet itself works cross-platform & there are various
third-party GUIs available (a little googling will help),
and APIs in most common languages if you want to roll your own.

Hello List,
I have been searching for offline dictionaries for
Redhat Linux 9.0. I haven't been able to search one.
By default, I have Kdict with KDE, but it requires an
internet connection. Though, I should not be saying
this, but in Windows, there is a software called
WORDWEB that is free as in "free bear".
Is there something similar to "Word Web?"

Hi everyone
the problem is identical to this guy's post...
www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t85763-unc-path-hyperlink-syntax.html
If anyone can figure out the unbelievably precise solution, please enlighten me.
I have a html page (served by ASP.NET.. that shouldn't matter right ;) )
which has a hyperlink to a UNC Share.
so <a id="something" href="file://///WinMachine/Share/Dir1/File.ext">Text</a>
I needed 5 slashes for Firefox. IE worked with some internal magic.
Now here's the strange part. With the above syntax, the URL works in IE.
It shows up in FireFox but doesn't work i.e. Click (nothing happens),
right click menu (doesn't function).
If I copy the link, open a new tab and paste it there, the Run_Or_Save dialog
comes up (expected behavior)
Next if I save the HTML locally and open it up in firefox, then the links work
straight out of the page.
Spent the last 3 hours to get this thing work identically in both browsers...
I have already tried the checkloaduri thing mentioned here. No luck! http://jspwiki.org/wiki/FAQGeneral#section-FAQGeneral-LinkingToUNCPaths
If anyone can help.. please do :)

Bangalore to Host the Fourth International Conference
on GPLv3
India will host the Fourth International GPLv3 Conference in
Bangalore, this August 23-24, 2006. A part of the world-wide drive to
create awareness about the upcoming version three of the GNU General
Public License (GPLv3), the two-day conference is expected to draw
delegates from across the communities - legal, bureaucrat and
academia. While the first day will see Richard M Stallman and Eben
Moglen, the original architects of the GPLv3 license, communicating
latest updates on the GPLv3 final draft, the second day holds panel
discussions on localisation, awareness and adoption of GPLv3 and
threat of Digital Restrictions Management (DRM).
The event to be held at the Indian Institute of Management - Bangalore
is a sequence to the Third International GPLv3 Conference that took
place in Barcelona, Spain. Similar events have already been held in
the USA and Brazil. The international GPLv3 conferences are part of a
year-long public consultation process to update the GNU General Public
License (GPL).
The version 3 of the GPL, essentially, takes into account changes in
terms of legal and technical environment, in which software licenses
operate, and the need to increase protection against new threats such
as software patents and Digital Restrictions Management (DRM). The
worldwide awareness drive for GPLv3, is to ensure that, all users of
software distributed under its terms, have the freedom to examine,
share, and modify that software.
