Here's an opportunity for FOSS consultants and firms to get FREE publicity
through LINUX For You!
Our interaction with IT managers has revealed that one of the biggest
obstacles faced by them while reviewing FOSS solutions is lack of information
about potential solution providers. It seems that if they had multiple
options, they would feel more comfortable in discussing their challenges with
different solution providers, and thus having the confidence that they were
taking an informed decision.
To bridge this gap, LINUX For You has been working on creating a Yellow Pages
section within the magazine itself, where anyone seeking a Linux/FOSS solution
provider can find them through a category-wise listing. In the last 2-3
months, we have managed to collate a list of over 50 solution providers. But,
we believe that there are many more out there, and the real value of FOSS
Yellow Pages (FYP) will only emerge once decision makers have ample choice to
work with.
THUS, THE SPECIAL OFFER: Any firm**, be it a one-man consultancy or an MNC,
can get listed for FREE under any ONE category of their choice. This offer is
open till 31st December 2008 or till we reach our goal of listing 100 firms in
FYP. This free listing will be applicable till March 2009, and could be
extended if things work out well. Oh! The Yellow Pages listing will also be
made available online, shortly.
To enlist your organisation for FREE, you can download the form from
http://www.openitis.com/fyp/ [Please ignore the tariff mentioned in the FYP
leaflet -- those are applicable to only those who want to enlist under
additional categories.] If you have doubts or queries, please feel free to
call Dhiraj Khare at 011-26810601 or 02 or 03 (extn: 230) -- he will be more
than happy to facilitate your entry.
Hope to keep playing a role in growing the India FOSS ecosystem with your
support...
Yours truly,
LINUX For You Sales & Marketing Team
**To ensure that firms listed in FYP are genuine, we will seek one of the
following:
(a) proof of incorporation of the firm, or
(b) proof of a current account for the firm
It works quite well except for infrequent dhcp no ip address issues.
I am using it with both Ubuntu & Fedora with a wi-fi AP cum router in
between the reliance wimax router and my laptop..
The wimax router requires power so u need some ups/inverter for use during
power cuts.

Hi,
Read for seeing how science made politics in USA on Star Trek, Star
Trek -- Next Generation and so on on:
http://www.arts.mcgill.ca/MEPP/exofile/sftv.html
Is it possible for Indians to make a movie on Science mixing Science
and politics. We only mix religion and politics and family drama and
politics and politics and politics.
But the most non-political show (I thought so) of Star Trek has USA
politics in it.

How about you taking up the Wiki Admin? Currently Roshan is really
busy and we need someone to take care of the wiki.
If you can take this up, we can discuss this on next LUG meet.

I need a movie production distribution from LINUX and people trained
to operate that distribution.
So I guess the issue is not "this distribution v/s that distribution"
but movie production distribution v/s music production distribution
v/s server distribution v/s easy to use distribution.
Now, I wish somebody could produce science fiction, peaceful movies
(or even plays) that could become hits on television etc.

people who know Mumbai have to do it - we have verified that the satellite
data is accurate and had a sprint where a few major roads were done. I did
some stuff in the Versova area and in worli too. We just have to wait until
people in Mumbai start work. New areas, apart from Chennai, Ludhiana, Delhi
and Ooty where good work is going on are Coimbatore and Hyderabad.

Several of us use Debian GNU/Linux and among other features we have all
appreciated the way Debian software package dependencies are calculated
to give us a stable package. At gnowledge.org we harvested the data
from the packages.tgz file of Debian 4.0 and created a program that
graphically displays the dependencies, called dependency maps. Search
for your favorite package and see how dependent a software is on other
packages.
Few examples:
http://www.gnowledge.org/debmap_view?objid=pythonhttp://www.gnowledge.org/debmap_view?objid=emacs21
Search for your favorite from:
http://www.gnowledge.org/search_debmap?val=1
One of the main reasons why we are interested in Debian dependency maps
is that we are inspired by that model and now wants to create a similar
knowledge.tgz file for all concepts and activities as gnowledge.org is
in the process of creating a gnowledge distribution. You will also be
able to see how we are using the idea of Debian for knowledge domain.
gnowledge.org is waiting for all of you to spread the message,
specifically among the teachers of any subject whatsoever to add the
dependency relations so that we can soon have a gnowledge (free
knowledge distribution) distro.
